iLogix recently worked on a PS5 for a customer. When the power button was pressed the console made a single beep, same with the media eject button. See how we helped her.

As always we need to state that iLogix is not accountable for damage to persons and property by anyone attempting this repair. We are not advising you do this unless you are properly trained, insured and have the right equipment.
iLogix encounters many gaming consoles that fail to power on. There are numerous factors to consider, and while we know where to investigate, the issue isn't always the same. Although some problems are common, we must adhere to a strict repair process.
On the PS5, like all computers, there are power rails. These power rails have different voltages, and they generate additional rails. Understanding the sequence in which the rails activate and knowing the components associated with each rail provides us with a starting point. We can examine the rails to identify physically damaged and shorted components.
What is a short circuit? We've discussed this before; refer to this Dell Venue blog for more details.
Using a multimeter, we discovered a shorted capacitor near the WiFi controller. Since we didn't have a donor board, we removed the capacitor below and measured its capacitance with a multimeter: 0402 10uF. These capacitors are incredibly small, as shown in the following photo of a reel of them next to a one Euro coin.

Using a hot air station, we replaced the defective capacitor, which resolved the power issue.
The Sony PlayStation 5 employs Liquid Metal rather than thermal paste between the processor and the heatsink. While this provides superior cooling, it complicates repairs somewhat. Improper handling of Liquid Metal can lead to damage and overheating. In this instance, we observed oxidation on the processor.

During the repair, we reapplied the Liquid Metal to both the processor and the heatsink.
Electronics naturally gather dust over time, which doesn't indicate that your home is unclean; it's simply a common occurrence. As part of the repair process, we clean the interior of the console, including the heatsink and cooling fan.
