Nintendo Switch no power ! "Letsa not go !!!!"

See how we repaired a Nintendo Switch that would neither charge or power on.

Sad Mario

Nintendo Switch Power issues are sadly too common, iLogix Computer Solutions will often see Switches that do not power on. In this case when we tried to power the switch on we briefly see the Nintendo logo followed by the battery icon but no charge. The device dies almost immediately.

The first thing we do is inspect the charging port for damage using a microscope, if the port is damaged we do not insert the charger and apply mains power, this could cause more damage. In this case the port was ok so we tried a different charger, no dice!!

We dismantled the switch and tried a new battery, again nada!!

We now fully dismantle the Switch and check around the M92 charging IC. There is a sequence of capacitors that have a connection to ground and a connection to the M92, we found a capacitor that was short to ground on both sides.

Although the capacitor could be faulty in our experience its more likely to be the M92.

We can easily test this by removing the M92 and seeing if the short goes away, which it did.

So, we now need to clean and re tin our pads with new leaded solder and flow a new chip in place. iLogix Computer Solutions keep a lot of parts in stock to give our customers a fast turnaround.

The liquid you see in the photo below is soldering flux, this is applied before we solder to allow the solder to flow properly.

When we retested our shorted capacitor the short was gone. 15v, that's more like it.
