Keep your data safe with Multifactor Authentication

Did you know that a password is not enough to keep you safe? This iLogix Computer Solutions Article will help you.
Modern authentication requires more, MFA provides this. MFA is Multi Factor Authentication. MFA means that you enter username and password and then require an additional authentication token such as a PIN, response to a Push Notification or an OTP (One Time Password).
Not securing your data can have very serious consequences to you personally and others including businesses and finance.
In this article we will look at enabling MFA for Microsoft Office 365.
Open a web browser and go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/
Sign in and select Security Info

You will see active MFA tokens listed, in this example we have Microsoft Authen ticator App on a Apple iPhone 14.

To add a new token select Add sign-in method. These are available based on allowed methods, some may have been disabled by your admin in a corporate environment.

You can use a variety of different methods as displayed here, for example Phone will allow you to receive an SMS message with a MFA PIN. Office Phone means you will receive a phone call from an automated bot that reads out the PIN. Email, this means you receive the PIN in an Email. Hardware tokens generate a PIN and are useful if you work in a secure environment that does not allow you to have a mobile phone with you.

In our example here we will set up MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator App.
The Microsoft Authenticator App can be downloaded from the Apple App store and the Google Play Store.

Select Microsoft Authenticator.

If you have not already done so follow the message on the screen and download the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Follow the prompts clicking Next when ready.

Finally scan the QR code on the screen to complete the set up, click Next and then enter the code sent to your mobile device.

Now, when you sign into your account or every 14 days you will be asked to re authenticate. You will receive a number on your phone which you need to type into the device, number matching prevents the phenomena of MFA fatigue.
Computer Criminals want resources as well as data. Your Mailbox is a resource, even if you do not consider your data of any value. Your identity is about as personal as it gets and it can be used against you and to aid in crime.
Make it hard for them.
